Mbodi started from a simple idea: I wanted to create candles that were about more than just smelling good. Each candle is paired with a curated playlist and made to encourage emotional acceptance, giving you a way to “Mbodi” whatever you’re feeling, no matter the vibe. I started making candles at home and selling them at local markets, and it has since grown into a full-time business. What I love most is seeing people connect with the idea behind Mbodi and use it to create a space where they can embrace exactly how they feel.
My half-brother is Filipino, and he is the reason I started Mbodi. Growing up, I saw him struggle with anger and emotional regulation, which taught me the importance of emotional acceptance and learning to recognize and work through what we’re feeling rather than judge or ignore it. That idea became the foundation of Mbodi, creating candles and playlists that help you create a space that supports whatever vibe you need. Being part of Filipino Market Day means a lot to me because Mbodi’s story starts with my family, and I hope it gives me the opportunity to show my brother how much he means to me and bring him along for the ride.
