✦ Fun fact
Fun fact: The Austin Filipino Cultural Dance Troupe (AFCDT) is an intergenerational group that brings together dancers of different ages and backgrounds to celebrate the rich cultural traditions of the Philippines through folk dance! AFCDT got its start in Austin as a small group of passionate Filipino dancers who wanted to preserve and share Philippine folk dances with the Central Texas community. What began with a shared love for Filipino culture has grown into a cultural dance troupe performing at community celebrations, festivals, schools, fundraisers, and multicultural events throughout Texas. What we love most about performing is seeing Filipino culture come alive on stage—and sharing it with people who may be experiencing these traditions for the first time. From the colorful costumes and lively music to the stories and traditions behind every dance, each performance is an opportunity to connect generations, build community, and proudly say, “Mabuhay ang kulturang Pilipino!”
This market is important to the Austin Filipino Cultural Dance Troupe because it gives us an opportunity to share and celebrate Filipino culture with the Austin community through music, dance, and meaningful cultural connections. It also allows us to connect with other Filipino-owned businesses, artists, and community organizations while creating greater visibility and appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. Most importantly, it provides a welcoming space for us to build community and inspire the next generation to take pride in their Filipino roots.
